Ripple Cut Flower Farm, Harrisville, NH

I grew up in a time when a free-range child wasn’t a label. It was just our day-to-day reality. In the woods of central New Hampshire, I would spend my days digging for worms, picking raspberries, searching the forest floor for a a Red Eft Salamander or looking for an elusive yet beautiful, Lady Slipper. Being out in nature was being home. I recall hours on end roaming the dirt roads and rock walls of our woods and running through fields of wildflowers while playing hide and seek with siblings and neighbor friends. The outdoors offered solace, a shelter, immense beauty and endless joy and inspiration. It still does.

Thirty-five years later and a different plot of Earth to call home, I still find simple joy and peace from a solitary walk through the woods, a single bud pushing through the Earth or suddenly spotting an earthworm while working the soil.

About the Ecosystem

This is not a solo adventure, as few worthy endeavors rarely are. I am joined by my steadfast husband, Erik , who has been the driving force, literally, behind building our enormous tunnel and many other construction projects. He can also be found working the pollinator plot or tending to our growing home vegetable garden. Our three children might on occasion be spotted in the fields helping haul flowers, or deliver bouquets. My parents are an endless support and are always overjoyed at receving flowers! I have so many incredibly supportive people in my life and for that I am ever-grateful.
